James Schwieger letter, 1862 January 24.

A letter (2 p., handwritten) by James Schwieger, from Belmont, Kentucky to his brother Henry in Goodhue County, Minnesota. The letter contains information on friends and relatives in the Union army, opinions on the possibility of British aid to the Confederacy, the death of Confederate general Felix Kirk Zollicoffer, the condition of arms issued to the men, and similar data. The following soldiers are mentioned in the letter: John Wesley Chandler, Third Minnesota Regiment, Company E; Jacob Cook, Jr., Seventh Minnesota Regiment, Company G; and David Schwieger, First Minnesota Regiment, Company F. Also included in the collection is a handwritten transcript of the letter, prepared by Mrs. James B. Ranck.
